Start with the primary controller
Control4 positions CORE 1 for small systems, CORE 3 for medium systems, CORE 5 for larger deployments, and CA-10 for exceptionally demanding projects. Those labels are a starting point. Audio-stream counts, physical control ports, Zigbee design, AV locations, drivers, programming load, rack topology, and future expansion determine the actual selection.
When secondary controllers make sense
A secondary room controller can provide local AV connections, audio streams, on-screen navigation, or coverage in a remote structure. It should solve a documented requirement—not be added merely because the house has many rooms. Large estates may use multiple controllers while still operating as one coordinated project.
How many touchscreens
Install dedicated touchscreens where instant whole-home status, cameras, door communication, or intercom justify an always-available interface: kitchens, main entries, primary suites, and central corridors are common candidates. The Control4 app may be sufficient in lower-traffic spaces. Two compatible touchscreens are generally needed when room-to-room intercom is an objective.
How many remotes
A dedicated remote is most valuable in every room with serious television or theater use. Bedrooms used occasionally may rely on an app or on-screen interface. The decision should consider tactile control in the dark, guests, charging location, voice use, accessibility, and whether a single remote can replace the pile of source remotes.
A room-by-room interface schedule
Skynet Domotics creates a schedule listing each room, controlled systems, preferred interface, AV sources, intercom role, and network path. We then select controller capacity with reserve and avoid unnecessary screens or remotes. The result is easier to price, program, teach, and expand.
How we apply this
At Skynet Domotics, we design, install and program control platforms. We first define routines, rooms, existing equipment, privacy preferences and support expectations, then verify which platform and integrations fit best. Our recommendation is not based on one brand alone and is documented by model, software version and scope.
